Reviewing

East Meets West

Amelia Marzec

In collaboration with Tommy Martinez

A virtual reality piece that is a walking simulator filled with impotent paper-doll tanks. It was inspired by the game, “World of Tanks,” a shooter which depicts historically accurate battles in Eastern Europe. However, East Meets West simply lets you explore the landscape, which is nonetheless littered with ghosts of the past.

Location: Harvestworks Art and Technology Program Building 10a, Nolan Park, Governors Island

Open September 1 through October 17 2023, @ 11:00 – 5:00 pm

Open to the public Fri, Sat, and Sun @ 11:00 – 5:00 pm

PRESS QUOTES
“While Beethoven is arguably the most famous user of bone conduction technology- he was able to ‘hear’ his music through vibrations in his jawbone when he bit a rod attached to his piano- Marzec and her innovative helmet are on the fast-track to greater success…” -PSFK

“I wanted to hug her, but didn’t want to freak her out.” -Humans of New York

“Your local TV meteorologist or your phone’s weather app can predict the chance of rain, but they can’t (or won’t) tell you how likely the end of the world is on a given day.” -Hyperallergic
