Umber Majeed

Umber Majeed is a multidisciplinary artist from New York. Her work, which incorporates writing, performance, and animation, engages with familial archives. Through a feminist lens, Umber examines the Pakistani state, as well as digital and urban infrastructure. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including showings at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (Taiwan, 2021), Akademie Schloss Solitude (Our Loves Are Not Only Human, Germany, 2020), the Ishara Art Foundation (Body Building, UAE 2019), and Karachi Biennale, Karachi (Witness, Pakistan, 2017), as well as numerous showings in the United States.

Umber is a graduate of the Beaconhouse National University in Lahore, Pakistan, and holds an MFA from the Parsons School of Design (New York, NY). She has participated in residency programs at the Elizabeth Foundation of the Arts (New York, NY), the Jameel Arts Centre (Dubai, UAE), and Pioneer Works (Brooklyn, NY), among others. Her upcoming work includes a 2024 solo exhibition of “Dil Dil Trans-Pakistan” in Toronto, Canada.
