Lau Wai

Lau Wai is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Hong Kong. Their work explores the moving image, photography, sculpture, and installation. Through the creation, exploration, and manipulation of their chosen media, Lau investigates the formation of identity via history, fiction, personal memory, and virtuality. Lau’s works have been shown internationally, including exhibitions and installations in Japan, China, Denmark, Taiwan, and across the United States. Their works are currently collected by institutions including The Museum of Fine Arts (Houston, TX), the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung Foundation (Germany), and M+ (Hong Kong).

Lau holds an MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University School of the Arts (New York, NY), as well as a BFA from the University of London. They have completed residencies at Alfred University’s Institute for Electronic Arts (Alfred, NY), the NARS Foundation (New York, NY), and have been the recipient of a Visual Arts Fellowship from Columbia University (New York, NY). Lau is currently based in New York, where they are working to develop upcoming projects involving CGI, animation, video, and video gaming.
