Kwami Winfield is a free improviser and noise musician from Jersey City, New Jersey. She has an extensive background in New York’s DIY and underground circles, working with cornet, drums, sampling, processing, and harsh electronics. She composes for dance, and was nominated for a Bessie Award in Outstanding Sound Design or Musical Composition for her work with Kyle Marshall Choreography in the virtual performance, STELLAR (2022). Kwami is also a sound collaborator at TNMOT AZTRO (Philadelphia, PA).
Kwami is a graduate of Bard College (Annandale-on-Hudson, NY). She has been an artist-in-residence at Chaos Computer and Pioneer Works (Brooklyn, NY).
