Andrea DeFelice

DeFelice is an interdisciplinary artist whose work can be described as
experimental creative research residing between disciplines and technologies. It is
often a hybrid of sculpture, installation, video and performance art. The variety of
materials, devices, experimental forms, and concepts involved in her process all
contribute to a determined, analytical and re-evaluative approach she insists into
the work. The outcomes reflect her interests in the relationship between people,
objects, and technologies, and the meanings they embody. Furthermore, her interests
demonstrate sensorial environments and performances that hint a message, or simply
point to communication itself as either a bridge between people, or a door jammed
shut. There are often strange marriages between content and form, fact and fantasy,
loudness and silence, chaos and logic, and art and science. DeFelice has exhibited
in the United States and internationally, and has participated in artist/engineering
residencies and collaborative projects based in Eastern Europe, Greece, the UK and
NYC. She received her MFA from Queens College and is currently an Assistant
Professor of Computer Graphics at York College.
