Melody Loveless

This event features musician and educator Melody Loveless, who will perform using Sonic Pi, a live coding synthesizer based on Ruby.

Location: Harvestworks Art and Technology Building, 10a Nolan Park, Governors Island
Saturday August 27, 2022 – 2pm, for approximately 1 hour.

Live coding is the act of altering algorithms in real time in order to manipulate an ongoing artistic process, like music or visuals. For this event, Melody will perform a set featuring live coding and vocal sampling before sharing a brief presentation on live coding and an introduction to Sonic Pi.

Melody Loveless is a musician, performer, educator, and multimedia artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work ranges from live coding performance, generative sound installations, multi-sensory performance, and more. She has performed around NYC in various venues, including Babycastles, Wonderville, (le) poisson rouge, Performance Space New York, and Eyebeam. Additionally, she has also organized/co-organized events including various concerts/performances and a day-long hackathon. Melody has presented talks on music education and her artistic practice for various organizations and events including the New Music Gathering, Monthly Music Hackathon, Bates Digital Music Symposium, and Pathways: Art and Technology. As an educator, she has taught in various institutes and organizations including New York University, the New School, Hunter College, Music Hackspace, and Harvestworks. She is also part of the first cohort of Cycling 74’s Max Certified Trainer Program. In the recent Spring 2022 semester, she was Visiting Faculty in the Department of Kinetic Imaging at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Melody Loveless

Melody Loveless is a musician, performer, educator, creative
technologist, and multimedia artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work ranges from live
coding performance, generative sound installations, multisensory performance, and
more. An active performer and member of the NYC creative community, she has
performed around the city in various venues, including Babycastles, Wonderville,
(le) poisson rouge, Performance Space New York, and Eyebeam. Additionally, she has
also organized/co-organized events including various concerts/performances,
exhibitions, conferences, hackathons, and more. Past honors include artist
residencies (local and international), performances and talks at conferences and
festivals, and awards and press for her music and work as a creative technologist
(see below for details). She has presented talks on music education and her artistic
practice for various organizations and events including the New Music Gathering,
Monthly Music Hackathon, Bates Digital Music Symposium, and Pathways: Art and
Technology. As an educator, she has taught in various institutes and organizations
